Why Give to BCI?
Berkeley is uniquely qualified to facilitate international conversations about China and foster understanding of its people and culture. However, our excellent programs operate on very limited resources. The renowned Center for Chinese Studies is ranked among the best in the country, yet its annual budget is one-quarter the size of Harvard's. Demand for Chinese language classes regularly exceeds our capacity, and graduate students who would like to attend Berkeley often go elsewhere because fellowship assistance is more generous. Because public funding has steadily declined and will continue to do so, we must turn to private philanthropy to make our wealth of experience and resources accessible to all. We are confident that alumni and friends will help us accelerate research, facilitate partnerships, and provide greater service to students and the general public on all aspects of China.
